[ed.  As of this writing Michael Yon appears on the verge of losing his embed status with the military in Afghanistan.  I wasn't aware of Mr. Yon until a friend turned me on to his web site.  He has been writing dispatches and photographing the Iraq and Afghanistan wars for several years.
